When Otto deposed him in favor of his uncle Berthold, Eberhard III of Franconia revolted and tried to depose Otto in favor of his elder half-brother Thankmar. Otto was able to deafeat and kill Thankmar. The revolt continued into the next year when Giselbert of Loraine swore fealty to King Louis IV of France. Otto's younger brother Henry conspired with the archbishop of Mainz to assassinate Otto. In 938.2
