Neurology is the medical specialty which addresses diseases of the brain, peripheral nervous system, and muscle. Examples of some of the more common neurological diseases are migraine headache, epilepsy, Alzheimer Disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson Disease, stroke, tremor, diabetic neuropathy, and muscular dystrophy. Neurologists do not perform surgery. Patients who need surgery, such as those who have aneurysms or brain tumors, may initially be diagnosed by a neurologist, but will require referral to a neurosurgeon if they need an operation. Neurologists are not psychiatrists. Psychiatrists also deal with conditions that arise from disordered brain functioning, but are manifested by certain types of disordered behavior or mood, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Willamette Valley Neurology provides consultations on referral only from a primary care provider or other physician. We are located in McMinnville, Oregon, on the third floor of the medical office building attached to the Willamette Valley Medical Center.
